Visit Woodbridge Suffolk and the surrounding villages and stay in bed and breakfast, hotel or vacation rental accommodation provided by BedPosts members.
Woodbridge in Suffolk sits on the River Debden. The town has a long history of sailcloth, ropemaking and boat-building and Sir Francis Drake is among those who had a fighting ship built here. There are many historical buildings, dating back as far as the 15th Century, and a working tide mill.
Shire Hall on Market Hill was built, like so many local treasures, by Thomas Seckford, in the 16th century. A mile away, on the opposite bank of the Deben, is the site of the Sutton Hoo ship-burial where excavations in 1939 revealed the remains of a Saxon ship, and a vast treasure hoard.
It's on high ground above the head of Deben estuary with cobbled lanes running down to the quayside and clustering barns. There are many fine Georgian and earlier houses. The church, with an admirable tower, porch and font of the 15th century, stands above the town; and Kyson Hill is a charming stretch of parkland along the river bank.
