Whittlesey bed and breakfast & hotel accommodation

Visit Whittlesey Cambridgeshire and the surrounding villages and stay in bed & breakfast, hotel or holiday accommodation accommodation provided by BedPosts members.

The Fenland market town of Whittlesey in Cambridgeshire was, until the 19th century, a 1900-acre lake. In winter it froze hard enough for skating, which was not only a major Fenland sport, but one of the fastest and most reliable ways of getting about. The water was drained in 1851 using a massive centrifugal pump. Many species of Wildfowl deserted. A positive outcome was that the inhabitants no longer suffered agues and rheumatics quite so much.

Today the population including surrounding villages is around 15.000.
