Newbiggin-by-the-Sea in Northumberland is a small North Sea coastal town. Commercial fishing still takes place using open boats of traditional design called "cobles". Coal mining, once the major employment, has ceased. Attractions include a 13th century church and the Maritime Centre. The beach has been restored using half million tonnes of Skegness sand. View the brass statue in the bay's centre. The long promenade is a favourite spot for "twitchers" to watch the passage of migratory birds.
