The town of Knutsford, Cheshire, has narrow streets and old black-and-white houses. Elizabeth Gaskell's novel ‘Cranford’ was modelled on Knutsford. She was married in 1832 in the 18th-century parish church, and her grave is behind the 17th-century Unitarian chapel.
