Visit Eastwood Nottinghamshire and the surrounding villages and stay in b and b, hotel or self-catering accommodation provided by BedPosts members.
Eastwood is a small town in Nottinghamshire, 10 miles from Derby. A horizon of pit-head machinery tells the casual visitor that this is was a mining community; but the countryside all around is farmland. It was this striking contrast of farmland and collieries which set the scene for D. H. Lawrence's early books, notably “Sons and Lovers” (1913) in which Eastwood figures memorably as “Bestwood”. Eastwood is the birthplace of D. H. Lawrence (1885 - 1930) he was born at 8a Victoria Street. The quiet rural beauty close to Eastwood deeply influenced his outlook, making him write, “I am English, and my Englishness is my very vision”
