Visit St Albans Hertfordshire and the surrounding villages and stay in B&B, hotel or holiday cottage accommodation provided by BedPosts members.
The city of St Albans, Hertfordshire, is sited on the old Roman road of Watling Street and was originally an iron age settlement known as Verulamium. Today it is a dormitory town for commuters to London. It is named after Britain's first saint executed by the Romans.
Queen Boudica invaded, sacked and burnt down Verulaneum in the year 61. A few bits of the Roman city can still be seen on the city walls and elsewhere.
Ye Olde Fighting Cocks is claimed to be the oldest pub in Britain, dating back to 8th century.
