Visit Newent Gloucestershire and the surrounding villages and stay in B&B, hotel or holiday apartment accommodation provided by BedPosts members.
Newent is a small market town in Gloucestershire and on the edge of the Forest of Dean 8 miles from Gloucester. Attractions include houses of an historical nature; a replica of a Georgian street; National Birds of Prey Centre; The Three Choirs vineyard.
Near the town is the International Centre for Birds of Prey. The birds can be seen being handled, in ground training and at work in the sky.
The 16th century timber-framed market hall is well preserved and there are several 18th century houses and a medieval spired church. The lead was removed from the church roof by the Royalists in 1644 during the Civil War, to make bullets to repel Roundhead attacks, and after a heavy fall of snow in 1674 the roof collapsed, destroying the nave. It was rebuilt after Charles II made a grant of 60 tons of wood from the Forest of Dean.
Taynton House, 3 miles south, has three interesting barns, one of which dates from 1695.
