Visit Lostwithiel Cornwall and the surrounding villages and stay in b and b, hotel or self catering cottage accommodation provided by BedPosts members.
LOSTWITHIELThis alluring little town was an active port all through the medieval period until the river's silt halted vessels coming to its quays. Today the river is crossed by a 14th-century bridge. Like Liskeard, Lostwithiel was a town making coins, which got rich from income derived from the assaying of tin and subsequent approval by royal seal. Close by are the ruins of Restormel Castle, a well-preserved Cornish military building. The castle was constructed during Norman times where previously a wooden fortification stood. Modern Lostwithiel looks much different to its old self; the Duchy Palace's buttresses and arches on Quay Street are all that remains of the Coinage Hall and other magnificent structures. One distinct building is the Church of St Bartholomew, in particular the 13th-century tower and 14th-century spire. The town's museum in Fore Street. Coutson Park is by the River Fowey by which it is possile to walk.
