Invermoriston, in Highland, is situated miles south-west of Inverness. The town has beauty both in its setting and in its architecture.
Most of the buildings, whitewashed stone and slate, are early 20th-century.
The little church, with its low, battlemented tower, dates from the late 19th century, but the burial ground off the Inverness road is far older.
The Moriston river runs into the dark waters of Loch Ness, behind and beside which steep forests climb to the hills. The main feature of the village is undoubtedly its river.
The elegant arched bridge, cunningly dovetailed into the rock, was built by the engineer Thomas Telford at the beginning of the 19th century, taking eight years to complete.
Attractions: Thomas Telford Bridge; Sron Na Muic peak; Caledonian Canal; ruins of Urquahart Castle. Many come to walk Great Glen Way.
