Cromer is a bustling family holiday resort with a zoo, a pier, a boating lake, a good sandy beach, and large hotels and boarding houses. The narrow streets of the old town twist around the 160-ft tower of SS Peter and Paul, the tallest church tower in Norfolk. The crab fishermen prepare their baits on the eastern end of the beach. A cliff path leads half a mile east to the lighthouse. Paths westwards from Cromer lead to East Runton, a mile away, and to West Runton, a mile further on, where there are large camping and caravan sites. A footpath leads 2 miles inland from Cromer to the earthworks of a Roman camp near Beacon Hill, the highest point in Norfolk.
