The historic cathedral city of Canterbury, Kent, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular tourist venue. It's the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, primate of the Church of England.
It's where Thomas Becket was murdered in 1170. St Alphege was also murdered here by King Canute's men in 1012.
Archeological finds date back to the Stone Age.
Today it has a population of about 55.000.
